Multimedia Translation

Subtitle files, dubbing scripts, audio transcription, video script localisation. Multimedia translation works under constraints that document translation does not: time codes, reading speed, lip sync, speaker attribution.

What this covers

Subtitle translation is not just translation constrained by space. It requires reading speed calibration (no more than 17 characters per second per line in most broadcast standards), line break decisions that work with the rhythm of speech, and judgement calls about when to adapt and when to condense without losing meaning. A line that sounds natural when spoken aloud is often too long to read on screen at the same pace. We produce subtitle files in all standard formats: SRT for web platforms, VTT for HTML5 and streaming, TTML and EBU-STL for broadcast. For dubbing, we work from the original audio transcript to produce scripts that are timed to the original speaker rhythm and appropriate for the target language. For corporate and training content, we translate video scripts directly and can coordinate voice recording with our network of voice artists.
